You can tell how open-hearted someone is by how open-minded they are. Do they acknowledge your emotions and thoughts, and nurture – that is, feed and protect – your development?
Do they observe your navigation of the world and offer new perspectives that move you along, even if that means challenging why you’re stuck? Can you trust them to help you find a source of truth when you admit that you don’t know anymore?
There is a mutual desire, a wanting. I want to know who you are, how you think, what you feel, and where you want to go. I want to know your why – your reason for being.
The people surrounding me right now are part of my world building. They are extensions of my five senses, helping me design and shape and create the life that I want to live, am living. When I am by myself, it is their voices I hear in my head; the emotions I feel for them inside my heart. To be influenced in this way is deeply personal, and fundamental to our well-being, so it’s wise to consider these partnerships carefully. There is a lot at stake.
The business of partnerships is creative, which means it is transformational, not transactional. How do we work and play together? There is an energetic exchange here, and it should be reciprocal if it’s going to be fruitful. We may not give each other the same things, but we should receive a goodness that qualifies our upbringing. This is how we raise each other.
